In Business Transition, Failure is not an Option
As professionals, we know that there are times when our expertise needs augmentation. Whether it is referring matters to a legal expert, or a complex tax issue, or sourcing the best financial lending sources, others can play a large part in helping us make the client more successful.
That is the partnership role in which you should view ROCG. Our role is to integrate your unique expertise along with the client’s other trusted advisors (such as the attorney, the wealth management advisor, the banker, etc.) into a cohesive team. ROCG manages the big picture. The big picture includes tax planning, succession planning, conflict resolution (you really don’t want to get embroiled in family squabbles, do you?), planning the process, drawing up the timetables and holding the client accountable to achieve agreed upon benchmarks.
In family situations there is always the possibility of conflict and hurt feelings that can result in a lifetime of strained relations. ROCG has the experience to work with families, often designing solutions that avoid family disputes and result in satisfying agreements all around.
It is also knowing how to transform roadblocks that might stop the client from proceeding, into positives that generate motivation. It is our goal to create more work for you. Transitioning a business goes beyond the simple issues of tax planning and corporate reorganization.
Our objective is to leverage your expertise, and knowledge of your client, to provide the best possible transition solutions. You become a key member of the transition team. If required, we would be willing to sign a non-competitive agreement.
Leverage the benefits of working with ROCG
Without the depth of services that ROCG offers, the client is likely to be attracted to other firms which promise more services than an accounting firm has to offer. ROCG is your in-depth provider of those services. ROCG opens the doors for you to do more of the required work. And because the direction comes from a third party, you can never be accused of feathering your nest.
Aside from generating value-added accounting work, working with ROCG will engineer a much closer working relationship for you with the client. In many cases the new owner will retain your services because of the professionalism you provided through the transition process, as well as your knowledge of the business and its connections.
Get ROCG involved from the ground floor
ROCG welcomes your partnership from the very start. Do you have a client considering selling or transitioning a business? Arrange for ROCG to accompany you to a Discovery Meeting. The meeting is free. Here the three of us will discuss the client’s objectives. You will see how our global connections can help out in broad based solutions. There is a symmetry in putting together a number of brains to solve problems. But most of all, you will see how collaboration works to further your client’s best interests.
Your role is not window dressing
As a vital member of the planning and transition team, you would gain access, with the client’s approval, to all the client records and documents of the planning process through a shared document storage system. Being a core member of the ROCG planning and transition team is not a platitude. And at the completion of the plan, your name is included with the rest of the other team professionals in the client’s final business transition report.

When things go wrong
A client of mine was approached at a business meeting by a partner from a Big 4 Accounting firm. The next thing I knew, my client signed a contract for 'Succession Planning'. I was bumped aside while they performed tax planning, corporate reorganizations and wealth transfer techniques that I had discussed with the client in recent years. I could have provided these specialty services for half the cost and integrated them with the family issues. The Big 4 accountants overlooked, or were unaware of the wishes of the family as they 'moved things around'. Now, I am worried that they will steal my client.
